The following section describes how to insert a part into your 3D CAD system using the 3Dfindit command.

[Note]Note

This describes the standard procedure.

For some CAD systems, you can find additional information in the CAD-specific chapter.

  1. In the ENTERPRISE 3Dfindit menu, click the Command 3Dfindit .

-> The view switches to 3Dfindit.

  2. Use any search method to select the desired component.

For example, a full-text search for "ISO 4762"

For example, a full-text search for "ISO 4762"

  3. Open the part and select the desired variant.

Select a value from the table

Select a value from the table

  4. Click the CAD button.

-> The focus shifts to the CAD system.

  5. In the CAD system, the placement dialog box appears.

    [Note]Note

The placement dialog is available for the interfaces of Inventor, Creo Parametric, Solid Edge, SolidWorks, and NX.

For other CAD systems, use the standard methods provided by your CAD system to place the object.

For certain parts, such as screws, 3Dfindit offers automatic placement methods. If no automatic placement methods are available, the buttons are hidden.

  6. Select a placement method:

    1. CAD System (Standard CAD Placement Method)

      [Note]Note

This placement method is always available.

For details, see Section 3.5.1.1.2, “Standard Method”.

    2. In the cylinder bore [In Cylinder] (3Dfindit placement method)

e.g., for positioning screws, but also bearings on shafts

Automatically creates the necessary placement constraints to position the solid in a cylindrical hole. [Create automatic references to place a body in a cylinder hole.]

For details, see Section 3.5.1.1.3, “"In the cylinder bore" ”.

    3. By area [On surface] (3Dfindit placement method)

Automatically creates the necessary placement constraints to place the body orthogonally on the surface [Create mates for placement on planar face]

For details, see Section 3.5.1.1.4, “"By area" ”.

    4. Touching Surfaces (3Dfindit Placement Method)

      e.g., for installing countersunk screws

Positioning using two contact surfaces [Placement with coincident faces]

For details, see Section 3.5.1.1.5, “"Touch Surfaces" ”.

    [Note]Note

For placement methods that are not available, the corresponding buttons are hidden. In particular, for screw-type fasteners, several methods are available.

    [Note]Note

CAD-specific dialog boxes may appear. Enter the appropriate information .

-> At the bottom of the placement dialog, the following buttons are displayed:

Open: The model is opened in a separate CAD window.
Place Multiple Times [Place multiple] (and Keep the Dialog Open)
Place once (and close the dialog box)
    Close dialog (without placement)

Multiple Place [Multiple placement]: Activating the checkbox allows direct, repeated placement in the CAD, without having to Multiple button place use [Place multiple]. [4]

If there are patterns in the placement section, they are recognized and a corresponding dialog box appears. For more information, see Section 3.5.1.2, “Placement Dialog - Pattern Recognition ”.

[4] For certain CAD systems, the Feature available on all placement methods, only on others in the standard CAD placement method. If the method does not lead to is available, then the checkbox appears greyed out.
