2.7.3.11. Generate Cluster Names

Purpose

You can create or update names for an existing clustering without starting a new clustering pipeline. The process runs as a separate name-generation job on the server and remains visible in the clustering overview for tracking purposes.

Requirements

Procedure

Open the context menu for the specified saved clustering and select "Generate names" [1]. For accounts without "clustering-manage," this action is intentionally missing.

The saved clustering is the basis for a dedicated naming job; its map shows which result the generated names are assigned to.

In the dialog you specify what the names are to be generated for. “Generate directory names” [1] is selected by default when the dialog opens. Select “Generate names” [3] to start the process, or “Cancel” [2] to discard it without creating a job.

The dialog box clarifies the scope of the naming before the server accepts the job.

After submitting, the overview jumps to "Active Jobs." The job card identifies the process as "generateNames" and displays the current status, progress, and the selected setting for directory names.

While the names are being generated, the job card is the primary status indicator.

Options and Decisions in Operations

Name Generation – Scope in the Dialog Box and Job Lifecycle Actions

Control element or State

Operating Instructions

"More"

Opens the context actions for the saved clustering. This allows you to access lifecycle operations without opening the results view .

"Generate names"

Starts the custom naming process for this saved clustering. Available only with `clustering-manage`; if this action is missing, the current account cannot manage the clustering's lifecycle.

"Generate directory names"

Enabled by default every time the dialog is opened. Leave this option enabled to generate names for all tree nodes, including directory nodes. Disable it if names are only needed for leaf clusters. The selected value appears on the job card as “yes” or “no.”

"Cancel"

Closes the dialog box without sending a request. Use this action if you want to reconsider the clustering or naming scope.

"Generate names" in the dialog box

Sends the request to generate a name for the selected saved clustering. While the request is in progress, the dialog displays a waiting state.

Map of the Active Job

Displays generateNames, the current status and progress, as well as the selected option for directory names. Use the map to distinguish this process from clustering and export jobs.

"Cancel" for an active job

Pauses a pending or running name generation job. The job is then listed under “Failed and Canceled Jobs” and can be restored or removed there.

"Retry"

Restarts a failed or aborted name-generation job for its original saved clustering. Available only as long as this source clustering still exists.

Result

The overview lists a separate generateNames job for the saved clustering. Once it is complete, the cluster tree can use the generated names. An aborted or failed job remains available for recovery actions and is not considered a completed naming process.
