2.7.3.7. Move parts and transfer them between clusters

Purpose

You hold one or more parts while you decide where they belong, and then assign them to an existing cluster or create a new cluster for them. "Clipboard" protects the held-back parts from conflicting changes and preserves the current user’s work even after the result is reloaded.

Requirements

Procedure

Select a part tile to make a correction that affects a single part, or use “Select all” [1] in the cluster map’s action menu to correct an entire cluster. To select multiple individual parts, hold down Ctrl and click each desired tile. Drag the selected parts to “Clipboard” [2]. A held-back part remains associated with its source cluster until it is placed in another destination; however, as long as it is in “Clipboard,” the current user holds a lock on the server.

The cluster's action menu allows you to select the entire cluster; "Clipboard" is the temporary storage area for the next assignment decision.

Check the retained tiles in “Clipboard.” “Clear” [1] releases the retained parts without changing their cluster affiliation. “New cluster” [2] creates a and moves the retained tiles there. A retained tile can also be opened via its action menu if you want to take a closer look at the tile before assigning it.

The filled "clipboard" distinguishes between a temporary hold and a completed move and presents the two possible options.

Place the held-back parts on another cluster map or a suitable destination in the tree to save the assignment. The updated source and destination maps show the changed affiliation. The tree, “Overview,” hierarchy graph, and histogram show the corresponding overall distribution of the newly loaded result.

The results view displays the changed affiliation and the updated overall context in the same view.

Options and Decisions in Operations

"Clipboard" and Assignment—Selection, Retention, and Destinations

Control element or State

Operating Instructions

"Select All"

Selects all parts of the current filled cluster, if the command is available. Use it if all parts of this cluster belong to the same new destination . If you want to move only some parts, select them individually, use Ctrl to select multiple individual parts, or use Shift to select a range.

"Clipboard"

Temporarily holds selected items back. The hold is tied to the logged-in user and is restored from the user's locks after a page reload. This does not change the stored affiliation with the source cluster.

Context menu for a selected part

Opens the same part details as a tile on a cluster map. Use this to view the part before you specify its destination; opening it does not remove it from the "Clipboard."

Target Cluster Map or Tree Node

Holds the reserved parts when they are placed there. For an existing destination, select a different sheet cluster, or before creating a new child cluster, select a suitable parent node. Placing items on the original cluster does not change the assignment.

"Clear"

Releases all held parts and updates their known source range. Use this action to discard the pending assignment; the parts remain in their original saved clusters. Not available if the "Clipboard" is empty.

"New cluster"

Opens the dialog for a new cluster at the selected location in the tree and adds the held-back parts as its first members. Use this action when no existing cluster is a suitable target. Not available when the "Clipboard" is empty.

Cluster Maps

Show component affiliation and status distribution for the source and target clusters. This allows you to see which partial result has changed as a result of an assignment.

Cluster tree, “Overview,” hierarchy graph, and histogram

Display the updated totals and distributions after a saved shift or the creation of a cluster. In these views, you can see the impact beyond the selected cards themselves.

Blocking Warning or Action Error

Indicates that locking, unlocking, moving, or creating could not be completed. After a change is rejected, the result reloads the status from the server; resolve the warning before proceeding with related changes.

Result

The selected items remain in their original cluster after clicking “Clear”; they either become members of the selected existing target or form the basis of a newly created child cluster. Saved assignment changes update the affected maps and all metrics in the results, i.e., the tree, “Overview,” hierarchy graph, and histogram.
