2.7.3.6. Check Parts and Set Status

Purpose

You track the progress of the check for individual parts or for all parts of a filled cluster. After each change, the results view updates the map, “Overview,” hierarchy tree, and graph based on the saved clustering status.

Requirements

Procedure

Use the action menu of a part tile [1] for an exception or an individual checked part. The three inspection statuses listed there apply only to this part; adjacent parts remain unchanged. The map’s distribution bar, the selected tree path, and “Overview” immediately show the context of the change.

In the results view, the part actions appear next to the selected cluster map; the hierarchy and "Overview" show the scope of the change.

If all parts of a cluster have the same check result, use the cluster's action menu instead of repeating the action for each part. The selected test status then applies to the entire filled cluster; the updated status distribution shows the shared status in the map, tree, and “Overview.”

Status distribution, counters in the hierarchy, and totals under “Overview” show the updated, saved status following a review decision.

The hierarchy graph shows the same clustering hierarchy as the tree. Its node progress bar provides an overview of the saved status; after both types of changes, parent nodes display the aggregated validation status of their child nodes.

A status decision for the entire cluster changes every part of the selected map and updates the status information in the hierarchy and "Overview."

Options and Decisions in Operations

Part Inspection – Status Actions and Status Displays

Control element or State

Operating Instructions

Context menu for a part

Opens the list of inspection statuses for a part. Use this option when a part needs to be evaluated independently of the rest of the cluster. The current value is highlighted in the menu.

"Open"

This part has not yet been inspected. Use this status for new inspection work or to return a part or a cluster to the uninspected pile again.

"To check"

This part needs to be reworked. Use this status when an initial inspection cannot yet be completed; in all status counters, it is tracked separately from completed work.

"Done"

The inspection of the part is complete. Use this status only if the part or the entire cluster can be considered inspected.

Action menu for a cluster

Provides a "Set all to" action for each available check status. Use this only if the selected status applies to every part of the populated cluster. If the cluster is empty, the action is not available.

Status Distribution of the Map

Displays the number of parts per inspection status in this cluster. Based on this distribution, you can decide whether a bulk change is appropriate and see the resulting mix.

Cluster Tree

Displays the status progress for the selected node and its parent hierarchy. Parent values summarize the underlying parts, so that the validation progress is also visible above the modified sheet.

Overview of the Cluster Hierarchy

Displays the same hierarchy as the tree. Node progress and details reflect the aggregated, saved status and provide an additional overview for large results.

"Overview"

Displays the totals for the completed, to-be-checked, and open parts of the clustering. It is updated after every status change and is useful for estimating the total effort required for checking.

Result

The saved clustering records the selected inspection status for the affected part or for all parts in the selected filled cluster. The results view then uses the updated status for card distributions, totals, tree progress, and progress in the hierarchy graph.
