You can set a reference plane in the 3D history [3D History] on base planes, reference planes and absolute planes using the context menu command Insert new plane. [Insert new plane...].. context menu command. See Section 7.6.2.3.1, “Create reference plane via 3D history ”.

Reference planes can also be created in the 3D view after selecting a surface using the context menu command Create new plane on selected surface [Create plane on selected Face]. See Section 7.6.2.3.5, “ Create reference plane via 3D view ”.
